An abstract or very free interpretation of the word ‘ Shellshock ‘ inspired by the fact that the English word ‘ Shell ‘ has multiple meanings. It can be a shell found on a beach but also a shell we use in a war. In this video I have used shells that I did found on a beach and sound to make something intense and disturbing like an explosion. After all it is an explosion that causes the human trauma that is known as ‘shellshock ‘. And it ends just as abruptly as it did start. The second work in a series of three that mainly deal with the materials with which they were made.

Shuttle Bus is my first independent animation work. The idea comes from a popular saying, “The life journey is similar to a bus ride. You’re accompanied by your family loved ones, but eventually you need to get off the bus one by one.” Through a voice-over narration, the animation tells a magical story of my memory of my grandpa. According to Chinese folk legends, when you burn the paper cranes containing your letter to your deceased family loved ones, the message can be read by them. The people and things that appear in the animation are my memory of staying with my grandpa. I want to portray these wonderful moments in a relaxed and fun way. Many animation techniques, including 2D, 3D and Stop motion, have been applied. I spent six years to complete this animation work, covering everything except the background music. I sincerely hope that you will enjoy watching this animation. Thank you.

Chasing Plastic Jellyfishes is a stop-motion animation which explores current ecological issues regarding plastic. “Right now, an estimated 12.7 million tonnes of plastic – everything from plastic bottles and bags to microbeads – end up in our oceans each year.” (Greenpeace, 2018) Her animation uses plasticine to bring a playful and colourful quality to the piece in order to educate an eclectic audience about the dangers of plastic waste for marine life. Courtney uses handmade plasticine models to show the harsh reality of plastic pollution, helping to convey the message to audiences in a sensitive manner.
